Simon Smith Named NJHoops.com Small College Player of the Month
HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 4, 2011) – Junior forward Simon Smith of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team was named the NJHoops.com Small College Player of the Month on Thursday night. Smith has been key in the Ducks' 13-5 start to the season, averaging a double-double and ranking in the top-25 nationally in three different statistical categories.
For the month, Smith led the Ducks to an overall record of 6-4 while averaging 12.9 points per game and 12.0 rebounds per game. Over that span, Smith posted six double-doubles and shot 61.3 percent from the field. He also tallied 23 assists and eight steals.
Smith is currently 10th nationally in rebounding, 12th in double-doubles, and 25th in field-goal percentage as the Ducks head in to an important conference weekend at Alfred University and St. John Fisher College. Stevens is 6-3 in the Empire 8 and is 1.5 games behind 8-2 Fisher. The Ducks defeated both teams in early January at home, including an overtime thriller against the Cardinals.
