Stevens Closes Dual-Meet Season with Win Over Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. (February 5, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team rolled to a 164-128 win at Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon in Oneonta, N.Y. The Ducks won 12 total events on the day as senior Laura Barito, senior Gabrielle Czernik, and freshman Louise Moores all won multiple individual races for the Ducks who end the dual-meet season 4-1.

Moores, Czernik, sophomore Marissa Douglas, and Barito kicked the dual off with a victory in the 200-yard medley, clocking a 1:49.67. Junior Kim McCaffrey, sophomore Victoria Baldwin, and senior captain Amanda Nauman swept the top-three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.65, 11:04.41, 11:11.30), and Douglas and junior Sian Pearson went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:58.42 and 1:59.74, respectively.

Moores won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.07, and freshman Megan Lisbon placed second, turning in a 1:02.41. Czernik earned a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with her time of 1:08.18, while Pearson and Nauman finished first and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.65, 2:16.60).

Barito and junior Hayley Hatfield went one-two in the 50-yard freestyle, touching at 23.67 and 25.54, and the duo did the same in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 52.25 and 55.95, respectively.

Lisbon earned a first with her 2:13.36 in the 200-yard backstroke and was followed by Douglas in second (2:16.12). Czernik’s second win of the day came in the 200-yard breaststroke as she notched a 2:30.14, while Pearson and McCaffrey placed one and two in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.44, 5:25.63).

Moores tallied another win with her 58.71 in the 100-yard butterfly, Czernik followed in third (1:01.63) in the same event, while Douglas and Lisbon finished two and three in the 200-yard individual medley with times of 2:13.69 and 2:20.29.

Despite swimming the last event in exhibition, Stevens would have earned a win as Pearson, Hatfield, Moores, and Barito teamed to turn in a 3:37.96 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Their time was almost 20 seconds better than Hartwick’s best time in the race.
