St. John Fisher Clinches Postseason Bid with Win over RIT
The St. John Fisher College women’s basketball team continued its longest winning streak in five seasons, recording its eighth straight win tonight, a 90-56 victory over host RIT.
With the win, the Cardinals clinch the postseason bid. It is the fourth straight season Fisher has made it to the extra session.
The Cardinals took a 39-19 lead into the locker room at the half. RIT was first on the board, but it was the only lead the Tigers would hold on the night.
A 13-2 run over the length of the second half of the stanza pushed Fisher to 35-15 just before the half ended.
Midway through the second half, Fisher enjoyed a 10-0 run to extend its lead to 18 points. The Tigers chipped away at the lead little by little, but couldn’t catch up as the Cardinals pulled away for the win.
Fisher, now 13-9 on the season and 10-3 in Empire 8 play, shot 59.3% from the floor during the second half, to end the game shooting 54.5% overall. Every Cardinal on the roster recorded at least two points in the win.
Amanda Lax led all scorers with a career-best 22 points, while Colleen Maloney and Meghan Soja each chipped in with 15 points and combined for seven rebounds.
