ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team has qualified four swimmers in one relay and five individual events for the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Championship meet, which will be held March 23-26 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Ithaca's 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool), freshman Carlene Ostromecki (Boyertown/Gilbertsville, Pa.), senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) and sophomore Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) have qualified for the national meet. They swam a time of 1:45.54 in the event at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 championship meet, which was the second-fastest time in school history. Jones and Rhoades also qualified in individual events.
Rhoades, who has qualified to compete in the NCAA meet for the fourth year in a row, is a 12-time all-American and has qualified to compete in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. Rhoades placed third in the national finals of the 50-yard freestyle as a junior in 2010.
Jones returns to the national meet for the second straight year. She earned all-American recognition in the 200- and 400-yard medley relay as a sophomore in 2010. She also holds school records in the 200- and 400-yard individual medley, and will compete in those individual events at the national meet.
The Bombers have placed in the top-20 of the team standings at the national championship meet each of the last three years.
