Ithaca Picks Up Lopsided Win Over Wheaton (Mass.)
Hilton Head, S.C. - The Ithaca men's tennis team (1-1) defeated Wheaton (Mass.) (1-2) by an 8-1 score Monday in South Carolina in a matchup of regionally-ranked teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Bombers are ranked 13th in the Northeast by the ITA and Wheaton is ranked 20th.
Senior Josh Rifkin (Homestead/Ft. Wayne, Ind.) was victorious at first singles and teamed with junior Jimmy Newton (Florida Virtual School/Englewood, Fla.) to win at first doubles. Rifkin, ranked 43rd nationally in singles, was a 6-1, 6-0 winner and Ithaca's first doubles team won 9-8 with a 7-5 victory in the decisive tiebreak.
