Hartwick Women's Lacrosse Crushes Maritime

ONEONTA, NY - Visiting SUNY Maritime was no match for Hartwick's women's lacrosse team on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks, after surrendering the first goal of the game, rattled off 18 consecutive goals to earn a 19-2 win. Hartwick is now 3-0 for the first time since 1997 and has surpassed the win totals of the last two seasons.

The Hawks held a 37-6 edge in shots and won 17 of 22 draws in the game. The Hawks were also flawless clearing their defensive end, connecting on all 11 attempts.

Ten different Hawks made it into the scoring column, led by a trio of players with three goals each. Freshman Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/East-South Manor) scored three goals and added two assists. Junior Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon) added three goals and an assist. Sophomore Ryan McGovern (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) also registered three tallies, which was a career-high, and contributed one assist.

Junior Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) chipped in with two goals and two assists. Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/S. Brunswick) and Erin Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) each picked up two goals and one helper.

The Hawks scored on nine of their 18 first-half shots. Kennedy, McCabe and Sisco each scored twice for 'Wick.

In the second half, the Hawks scored three times before the midway point for a 12-1 lead and expanded the advantage to 17 with six and a half minutes remaining.

Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland), Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields), and Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) also tallied for 'Wick. Kaye added three saves in cage before Grace Suttell (Little Compton, RI/Providence Country Day) played the final 11 minutes.

Twelve Hartwick players registered at least one ground ball. Bianca Gianfrate (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) had the team-high with three. She also registered a game-high three caused turnovers. Sisco, Scicchitano, and Kennedy won three draws each.
