Berry Eearns D3hoops.com East Region Player of the Year Award

Utica, N.Y. (3/17/2011) - Senior forward Jessica Berry of the Utica College women’s basketball team was named the D3hoops.com East Region Player of the Year for the first time in her career Tuesday. Berry is making her fourth straight appearance on the all-region team after being named to the second team in her freshman and sophomore campaigns, before being elevated to first team status for the past two seasons.
Berry recently wrapped up her amazing four year career with a school-record 2,111 points and she also grabbed 1,065 rebounds. She guided the Pioneers to four straight Empire 8 Conference Tournaments, two Empire 8 Conference Titles, and two NCAA Division III Championship appearances over the course of the last four years.
Berry, who was named one of 11 female finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy (National Player of the Year), became the 11th player in the history of NCAA Division III women's basketball to score over 2,000 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds in a career this past season. She won her second straight Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year award and was also named to the all-conference first team for the fourth straight year. Berry led the conference and ranked tenth nationally with an average of 21.6 points per game. She also led the conference and ranked 39th nationally with 10.5 rebounds per game.
Berry was also the conference's player of the week six times this year, the ECAC Upstate Player of the Week three times and she was also named to the D3hoops.com team of the week once.
Players were nominated for the D3hoops.com All-Region awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. There were 676 players nominated nationwide, a new high. The ballot was then made available to Sports Information Directors, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players, to ensure balance.
