Strong Second Half Propels Elmira Past Lycoming
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College Soaring Eagles Men’s Lacrosse team took the field Thursday afternoon for their first home contest of the 2011 season. The team trailed early but rallied for 12 second half scores en route to the 15-to-11 victory. With the win, Elmira’s overall record now stands at 2-0 in the young 2011 season.
Lycoming College was able to get off to a great start in the contest notching eight first half goals, including a stretch of five consecutive scores. The Lycoming defense also did its job allowing only three Elmira scores for the 8-to-3 halftime lead.
The Soaring Eagles, however, would respond in the second half with 12 goals and allowing only three. Third year player TJ White ’12 (Collegeville, PA -- Methacton) kicked off the comeback with a goal just 29 seconds into the third period. David Evert ’14 (Niagara Falls, NY -- Niagara Wheatfield) and Adam Walker ’11 (Corning, NY -- Corning East) combined for six goals in the second half, all coming during a stretch of nine consecutive scores for the Purple and Gold. For the game, Evert and Walker led EC with 4 goals each. Evert also contributed three assists for Elmira.
Dave Bucchino ’13 (Cedar Grove, NJ -- Bow) was stellar in net for EC making 18 saves for his second win in as many days.
