KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Nazareth pushed home the winning run in the top half of the 11th inning Friday for a 5-4 victory over Hood College in the Golden Flyers' final outing of the Rebel Games in Florida.
Nazareth completed the trip with a 3-7 overall record with junior Kelly Kocher gaining the pitching win for Nazareth as she finished with 14 strikeouts.
After each team scored single runs to keep the game tied at 4-4, Nazareth scored in the 11th inning as freshman Liz Toner scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by Kasey Pollot. Hood had another chance to tie in the bottom half of the 11th, but the potential tying run was left stranded at third as Kocher coaxed the final out on an infield grounder to Pollot at second base,
Nazareth scored once in the second inning on a run-scoring single by Kaitlin Graham. The Golden Flyers added another run in the sixth when Pollot singled home Toner. As the game reached extra innings, the game was extended after each team scored in the ninth and 10th innings. Nazareth scored in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by freshman Claire Campbell. Nazareth scored in the 10th on an error by the Hood third baseman.
Kocher was strong on the mound as only one of the four runs she allowed was earned.
Nazareth also lost to Montclair State Friday, 10-0, in a game that was shortened to five innings. Montclair State scored six times in the first two innings and Nazareth never challenged as the Golden Flyers were held to five singles. Pollot had two of Nazareth's five hits.
