The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team rallied from a three-goal deficit in the second half and picked up a 19-17 win over previously undefeated Buffalo State College on Saturday at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.

With the win, Fisher improves to 3-1 on the year.

Buffalo State (3-1) led 14-11 with just under 26 minutes left, but Fisher scored three straight goals – two of which came in a 15-second span – and tied the game with 22:28 left on a goal by Mary Stimson.

The Bengals came right back and regained the lead at 15-14 just 22 seconds after Stimson’s goal, but Fisher took the lead for good, thanks to three straight goals.  Courtney Clare’s goal with 20:58 off a pass from Stimson made it 16-15 and the Cardinals never trailed again.

Buffalo State scored the game’s final goal with 3:32 left, but Fisher won the ensuing draw and kept possession for the remainder of the game.

Clare and Stimson each scored four goals.  Clare also totaled three assists to tie her career-high with seven points, while Stimson recorded two assists to finish with a season-best six points.

Leonhard led the Cardinals with five goals, while Meg Merriam finished with four points on two goals and two assists.  Leonhard also finished with seven draw controls, while Merriam added five.

Taylor Hughes scored a career-high three goals, while Jackie Maynard, Emily Bryerton and Logan Barnard each recorded a point.

Goalie Caroline Trpcevski came up big for the Cardinals in the second half.  The freshman allowed just four goals over the final 30 minutes and all eight of her saves on the day came in the second half.
