Ithaca Women's Swimmers Earn Five All-America Finishes On Day 1 of NCAAs

Knoxville, Tenn. - Four members of the Ithaca women's swimming & diving team earned five all-American finishes on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Tennessee. Ithaca stands 13th in the team standings after the first day of the four-day championship meet.

Ithaca's 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Carlene Ostromecki (Boyertown/Gilbertsville, Pa.), sophomore Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park), sophomore Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) and senior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) finished 10th overall and placed second in the consolation final with a time of 1:45.48, which is the second-fastest time in Ithaca history in the 200-yard medley relay. Ithaca ranked 11th after the preliminary heats with a time of 1:46.02.

Rhoades also repeated as an all-American in the 50-yard freestyle. She won the consolation final, placing ninth overall, with a time of 23.50 seconds. Rhoades ranked 10th in the preliminary heats with a time of 23.66 seconds. With her two all-America finishes Wednesday at the national meet, Rhoades now owns 14 all-time all-America finishes at Ithaca.

In other preliminary events, Jones was 19th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.24.

Action continues Thursday, as Ithaca's women's swimmers will compete in the 400-yard medley relay, Jones will compete in the 400-yard individual medley and Rhoades will swim in the 200-yard freestyle. Ithaca men's diver Derek Rand will compete in the 1-meter diving event.
