St. John Fisher Takes Two From Rochester
The St. John Fisher College softball team improved to 11-3 on the year with two big wins over cross-town rival University of Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. Fisher will return to action on Saturday and will host Rochester Institute of Technology in it's first games of Empire 8 Conference play in 2011.
Game One – Fisher 1, U. of Rochester 0
Fisher scored the game’s only run on a solo home run by Leanne Merchant. It was the sophomore's third home run in the last two games. Sophomore pitcher Danielle Leone allowed just three hits over the seven innings, raising her record to 5-2 on the year. She also struck out six batters, while walking just one.
Game Two – Fisher 12, U. of Rochester 0 (5)
Fisher scored five runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third inning and never looked back. Sarah Fordyce led the way for Fisher, going 3-for-3 at the plate with 5 RBI. She hit a two-run double in the first and smacked her second two-run homer in as many days in the third inning. Sophomore Kayla Goodberlet and junior Jennifer Vanek each finished the game with three hits and three runs scored. Megan Rogers drove in three runs, while Jamie Harmon went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Pitcher Sarah Stefanon moved to 2-0 on the year with her second consecutive shutout.
