Yaphank, N.Y. -- The baseball team (1-0) hammered previously unbeaten Mount St. Vincent (2-1) 17-1 to open the 2011 season. Three Bomber pitchers combined on a two-hitter and Ithaca's offense pounded out 20 hits.

Freshman shortstop Tim LoCastro (Auburn/Auburn) started his career with a bang, leading the offense with four hits, four runs scored and three driven in. He, junior designated hitterTeagan Barisi (Lansing/Lansing) and junior second baseman Matt Keller (Pelham/Pelham) both drove in three runs, with Keller's bases-loaded triple highlighting the Bombers' six-run eighth inning. Ithaca scored in each of the last six innings, tallying 10 runs after the seventh.

Junior Brian Eggleston (Chenango Valley/Binghamton) earned the win -- the first of his career, allowing one hit over six innings. He struck out a career-best seven batters, didn't issue a walk and allowed just an unearned run. Sophomore Pat Lemmo (Westhill/Syracuse) and freshman Kyle Ranck (Lewisburg Area/Lewisburg, Pa.) combined for three innings of one-hit shutout relief.

A total of 12 Bombers hit safely, with senior right fielder Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester), junior outfielder Mike Rosenbaum (Fayetteville-Manlius/Fayetteville) and Barresi collecting two apiece. Senior catcher Sean Weber (Columbia/East Schodack) drove in two runs and sophomore center fielder Andrew Turner (Randolph/Randolph, N.J.) scored twice.
