Four School Records Help Ithaca Men’s T&F Team to Fifth-Place Finish at ECACs
New York, N.Y. – The Ithaca men’s track & field team clocked a fifth-place finish out of 53 teams by recording 43 points at the 2010-11 ECAC Indoor Championships. Ithaca’s finish, in which four school records were slashed, is its second-best finish in program history after claiming the ECAC crown last season.
Seniors Jeff Wetmore (Maple Grove/Bemus Point) and Max Orenstein (Trumbull/Trumbull, Conn.) rewrote school records as Wetmore placed third in the 200-meter dash and Orenstein seventh in the 400 dash. Wetmore set the 200 school record with a time of 22.09, while
Orenstein set a new mark with a 49.46 finish in the 400.
The Bombers’ other two records came in the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
Freshman Brennan Edmonds (Charles O. Dickerson/Ithaca), sophomore Chris Mastrosimone (Fairport/Fairport), Wetmore and Orenstein teamed to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor championships with a fourth-place 4x400 finish of 3:18.92.
The 4x800 relay was comprised of sophomore Billy Savage (Indian Hills/Oakland, N.J.), sophomore Nate Bickell (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.), senior Anthony Veroline (Seneca/Tabernacle, N.J.) and sophomore Matthew Kastler (Walter Johnson/Bethesda, Md.). The squad rewrote a 28-year old school record with a fourth-place 7:51.65 finish.
Graduate student William Way (Cheltenham/Glensdale, Pa.) placed second in the 3,000 run in 8:33.64 and senior Kyle Devins (Ausable Valley/Peru) finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.90 meters to round out the Bombers’ scoring.
The Bombers will next compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Capitol on March 11-12.
