Leugers Wins Mile as Ithaca Women’s T&F Finishes Sixth at Indoor ECACs

New York, N.Y. – The Ithaca women’s track & field team clocked a sixth-place finish out of 45 teams by recording 41.5 points at the 2010-11 ECAC Indoor Championships. The Bombers broke a pair of school records on the day.

Senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) snapped her own mile record with an NCAA provisional time of 4:55.53 in winning the event.

Junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) placed in three individual events and one relay. She finished third in the long jump with a 5.39-meter mark, fourth in the high jump with a clear of 1.63 meters and seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.64.

She teamed with freshman Martyann Chromik (Naugatuck/Naugatuck, Conn.) and seniors Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) and Emily Moran (Walkill/Walkill) to finish fourth in the 1,600 relay. The Bombers finished the race in 3:58.28 to snap a 20-year old program record.

McCord also placed second in the 400 dash with a time of 57.50.

The Bombers will next compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Capitol on March 11-12.
