Bombers’ Men’s Track & Field Competes at Moravian and Cornell

Bethlehem, Pa. – The Ithaca men’s track & field team competed Saturday at Moravian’s Coach P Invitational and Cornell’s April Open. Senior Kyle De (Ausable Valley/Peru) led the squad with an NCAA provisional qualifier of 7.08 meters in the long jump to win the event.

Long jump was one of three events won by the Bombers at Moravian as senior Jeff Wetmore (Maple Grove/Bemus Point) won the 200-meter dash and teamed with freshman Jake Willis (Gorham/Gorham, Maine), sophomore Chris Mastrosimone (Fairport/Fairport) and senior Max Orenstein (Trumbull/Trumbull, Conn.) to claim the 4x100 relay.

Wetmore won the 200 in 22.12, while Orenstein followed in 22.13 to finish second, both in ECAC-qualifying times.

The 400 relay squad won the event in an ECAC-qualifying time of 42.64, while freshman Brennan Edmonds (Ithaca/Ithaca) teamed with Mastrosimone, Wetmore and Orenstein to finish second in the 4x400 relay in 3:17.61, again hitting the ECAC qualifier.

Orenstein and Wetmore went 2-3 in the 100 dash in 11.12 and 11.13, respectively, while Willis finished 10th in 11.37. Closing out top-10 performances on the track were sophomores Matt Confer (Webster Schroeder/Webster) and Ian Tapler (Guilderland/Schnectady) in the 400 hurdles. Confer placed sixth in 58.18 and Tapler ninth in 58.57.

Devins was joined in the long jump by sophomore Brian Maley (Ithaca/Ithaca) placing seventh with a distance of 6.54 meters and Edmonds ninth with a mark of 6.30 meters.

Ithaca placed three in the high jump as freshman Brendan Wilkins (Stonington/Pawcatuck, Conn.) and senior Chris Stahlmann (Goshen/Goshen) tied for fourth with a clear of 1.88 meters, while senior Kramer Jakubek (Monroe-Woodbury/Monroe) placed seventh, also clearing 1.88 meters.

Junior Travis Johnson (Nashoba/Stow, Mass.) placed seventh in the triple with a mark of 12.71 meters.

Ithaca had multiple top-10 finishers in the throwing events at Cornell. The Bombers placed four in the hammer, two in the shot and one in the discus.

Junior Jusan Hamilton (Ithaca/Ithaca) was third in the hammer with a mark of 45.53 meters. Junior Spencer Barry (Avon/Avon, Conn.) followed in seventh with a throw of 38.34 meters, senior Paul Helm (Algonquin/Southborough, Mass.) eighth with a 38.11-meter heave and sophomore Ian Kelley (Oneonta/Oneonta) ninth with a mark of 34.40 meters.

Helm also placed ninth in the shot put with a 12.32-meter mark and Kelley seventh in the discus and ninth in the shot put. He threw 40.28 meters in the discus and 12.12 meters in the shot.
