The St. John Fisher College softball team split an Empire 8 doubleheader with visiting Stevens at the Fisher softball complex this afternoon.

Game one: Stevens 4, Fisher 3

A two-run home run from freshman Jessica D’Angelo would tie the game at 3s in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Cardinals couldn’t stop the Ducks as Stevens tacked on a run in its final up to seal a 4-3 win in game one of today’s doubleheader.

Carissa Carlson went 2-for-3 from the plate, scoring one run, while teammate Kayla Goodberlet went 2-for-4 from the plate with one RBI. D’Angelo, who pinch hit in the sixth, ripped the team’s only home run, tacking on two RBI.

Sophomore Danielle Leone suffered the loss from the plate, pitching 6.1 innings and fanning four batters.

Game two: Fisher 5, Steven 2

Stevens kicked off the nightcap with a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but Fisher scored two to tie it and never looked back, adding a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal a 5-2 win.

A two-run home run to left field from Megan Zoerb in the bottom of the third would score Lauren O’Brien, who singled to get on base, tying the game at two runs apiece.

Krista Robarge singled to kick off the fifth inning, and would eventually be scored by a single from Zoerb for the go-ahead run, pushing the Cardinals to a 3-2 lead.

The Cardinals sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Carlson started things off with a double, and a single from Jamie Harmon would score Alicia Vann, who pinch ran for Carlson. After advancing to second on the throw home, Harmon was scored by Robarge, who singled through the left side to knock in the game’s final RBI.

Fisher earned the win as Stevens failed to capitalize in the seventh.

Pitcher Sarah Stefanon scattered four hits over seven innings, fanning a season-high nine batters.
