The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team earned a 23-10 win over visiting Susquehanna University in non-conference action on a beautiful afternoon at Growney Stadium today.

Eleven different players recorded at least one point for the Cardinals, with five players scoring four or more points.

Fisher got on the board first just over a minute and a half into play, with senior Jackie Maynard putting it in the back of the net by herself. The Crusaders tied it at one goal apiece just over two minutes later, but a goal from Melissa Leonhard would set Fisher off on a 6-0 run to improve its lead to 7-1 just over 10 minutes into play.

The Cardinals closed out the first half with a 16-6 lead, leaving the clock running throughout the second stanza.
Fisher opened the second half on a five-goal tear, improving its lead to 21-6 before the Crusaders could retaliate with three straight goals. Fisher would score the game’s last goal, though, as freshman Jill Zerrillo capitalized on the man-up opportunity with just 49 seconds left to play.

Maynard led all scorers with six points on four goals and two assists, while Mary Stimson, Meg Merriam, Bridget Alberts, and Leonhard each added five points apiece.

The Cardinals, who improved to 7-3 with today’s victory, return to Empire 8 action with a 4 p.m. contest against RIT on Wednesday at Growney Stadium.
