Ithaca Hits Three NCAA Provisional Qualifiers at Coach P Invitational
Bethlehem, Pa. – The Ithaca women’s track & field team hit a trio of NCAA provisional qualifiers at Moravian’s Coach P Invitational on Saturday. The Bombers also competed at Cornell's April Open.
Junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) hit a pair of qualifiers in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles, while senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) qualified in the 400 dash. The three marks were three of five Ithaca event victories.
Dewart won the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters, while sophomore Amanda Rissmeyer (Watchung/Millington, N.J.) placed second having cleared 1.60 meters to qualify for the ECAC Outdoor Championships. Dewart also won the hurdles in 14.66 followed by sophomore Tammia Hubbard (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep/San Francisco, Calif.) in second place with an ECAC-qualifying time of 15.42.
Dewart also finished third in the long jump with a distance of 5.55 meters to qualify for the ECAC meet.
McCord was victorious in the 400 dash clocking in at 57.04.
Dewart and McCord teamed with sophomore Cassandra Clark (Camden/Camden) and junior Hannah Evans (Penncrest/Media, Pa.) in the 400 relay to hit the ECAC standard in a second-place time of 49.38, while Hubbard and Clark joined with sophomore Emily McCune (Pinkerton Academy/Hempstead, N.H.) and freshman Paige Klingerman (Loyalsock Township/Williamsport, Pa.) to place fourth in the 4x400 in 4:10.10.
The Bombers placed six in the top 10 of the 1,500 run, won by junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) in 4:48.81. Graduate student Melanie McCormick (Champlain Valley Union/Williston, Vt.) followed in sixth in 5:02.05, graduate student Alicia Burillo (Valley Central/Montgomery) in seventh in 5:04.02, senior Caitlin Campbell (Essex/Essex, Vt.) in eighth in 5:06.77, junior Molly Quinn (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) in ninth in 5:07.47 and senior Danielle Sisti Camden/Camden) in 10th with a time of 5:07.61.
Additionally Ithaca placed three in the 800 led by senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) in second place clocking in at 2:19.63, while sophomore Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) placed third in 2:21.23 and senior Emily Moran (Walkill/Walkill) eighth in 2:23.79.
Hubbard finished fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.73 and senior Liz Schlos (Canterbury/Fort Wayne, Ind.) third in the 5K with a time of 19:34.11.
Rounding out the field events the Bombers had junior Ashley Dlubac (Merrimack Valley/Loudon, N.H.) finish seventh in the javelin with a mark of 34.11 meters, Evans finishing eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.23 meters and freshman Shannon Meehan (Hereford/Upperco, Md.) and junior Julie Orlando (Haverford/Havertown, Pa.) in a three-way tie for 10th-place having cleared 2.75 meters in the pole vault.
Junior Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) won the shot put and finished in the top 10 of the other three throwing events at Cornell. She won the shot with a throw of 10.93 meters, while junior Katie Middleton (Pinkerton Academy/Derry, N.H.) finished fifth with a mark of 9.96 meters and freshman Elaine Abdulky (Ithaca/Ithaca) 10th with a 7.98-meter mark.
The same three finished in the top 10 of the hammer and discus. In the hammer Middleton was fifth with a throw of 41.52 meters, while Hoeffner finished sixth with a 40.21-meter throw and Abdulky ninth with a mark of 33.56 meters. Hoeffner was fourth in the discus, Middleton fifth and Abdulky sixth with throws of 35.46 meters, 31.45 meters and 31.05 meters, respectively.
Junior Caity Erickson (Acton-Boxborough/Boxboro, Mass.) finished second in the javelin with a throw of 32.74 meters and Hoeffner followed in seventh with a distance of 27.43 meters.
