Golden Flyers improve to 9-3 overall

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Freshman Amy McIntosh scored a career-best six goals and added an assist for visiting Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers dominated Hartwick in an Empire 8 women's lacrosse game, 19-9.

The Golden Flyers won for the third straight time to improve to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8 Conference. Hartwick is 5-6 overall and 1-5 in conference games. Nazareth visits ninth-ranked Stevens Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.

Nazareth scored six times before the game was 15 minutes old to take a commanding lead. The Golden Flyers kept the Hawks off the scoreboard until less than seven minutes remained in the first half. Sophomore Megan Cregan scored all three of her goals during that early run. Senior Kristine Olijnyk added a pair of goals and McIntosh also scored.

Goals by McIntosh and senior Chelsey Amidon lifted Nazareth to an 8-2 advantage before Hartwick's Erica Scicchitano scored twice in a 12-second span to shave Nazareth's lead to 8-4 before halftime.

Nazareth opened the second half by scoring five of the first six goals to erase any Hartwick comeback hopes. McIntosh and Olijynk scored twice each and sophomore Alyssa Johnston also connected on a free-position shot.

Nazareth's lead continued to grow and ballooned to 19-7 late in the second half. McIntosh added her fifth and sixth goals of the game and senior Michelle Cook also scored two times. Johnston scored again and sophomore Leah Cronister delivered an unassisted score.

Cook finished with four assists while Johnston and Amidon had two each. Freshman Tara Prosak played the first 30 minutes in goal and made five saves. Sophomore Shelby Robinson had one save in the second half.
