ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Emma Dewart of conference champion Ithaca College was named Field Athlete of the Meet and senior Laura Barito of Stevens Institute of Technology was selected as Track Athlete of the Meet at the 2011 Empire 8 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by RIT.
Dewart provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships by winning the high jump (1.65 meters) and placed second to teammate Marcia McCord in the triple jump (10.91 meters). She won the pentathlon national championship during the indoor season.
Barito, who was named Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year and became the first national champion in Stevens history, earned the Track Athlete of the Meet award after winning the 100-meter dash (13.22 seconds), the 400-meter dash (58.45 seconds), and the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.15). She also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.42 seconds).
