The St. John Fisher College baseball team went 1-1 in its doubleheader at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. The Cardinals won the first game 2-0<, thanks to a two-hit, 12-strikeout performance from freshman pitcher Justin D’Amato.

In the nightcap, Fisher had its seven-game winning streak come to an end, as Stevens scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie and defeated the Cardinals (10-5 overall, 1-1 Empire 8) 6-2.

In the opener, D’Amato was dominant on the mound, raising his record to 5-1 on the year. He walked just one batter and no runner made it past second base.   Fisher took the lead for good in the third inning on an RBI-single from Leo Fusilli to score Sean Osterman. Steve Karnyski tacked on a solo home run in the sixth frame for the game’s final run.   Osterman, Ben Bostick and Matt Klock each picked up two hits in the win.

In the nightcap, Fisher trailed 2-0, but tied the game up with one run in the third and one in the top of the sixth, before the Ducks scored four (three unearned) in the bottom half of the inning. Ben Ward and Karnyski combined for four of Fisher’s five hits in game two.  Fisher and Stevens will play another doubleheader on Sunday with the first game starting at 12 p.m.
