Ithaca Softball Splits Empire 8 Opening Series
Weehawken, N.J. – The #13 Ithaca softball team (9-3, 1-1 Empire 8) opened its conference season with a split at Stevens (11-7, 1-1 Empire 8) Saturday afternoon. The Bombers won the first game 4-0 and dropped the second game 5-4 in eight innings. Ithaca hosts Rochester Sunday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader. It will be Ithaca's first home games of the season on Kostrinsky Field.

Senior Allison Greaney (John F. Kennedy/Iselin, N.J.) threw a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Greaney is now 3-0 on the season and has allowed just two runs in 25 innings pitched. The Bombers took the lead with a three-run second inning highlighted by a two-run single down the right-field line by freshman Julianne Vincent (Westhill/Stamford, Conn.). Junior Annmarie Forenza (Hunterdon Central/Whitehouse Station, N.J.) had an RBI-single in the fourth that brought home Greaney, who doubled to start the inning. Ithaca had eight hits in the game, and eight different players had one hit each.

Ithaca built an early 3-0 lead in this game with two runs in the first and another in the third. Greaney delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single that brought home two runs in the first. Sophomore Molly O'Donnell (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) brought home another run with a sac fly in the third. Vincent was 2-for-4 in the game.
Stevens rallied to take a 4-3 lead, but Ithaca tied the score in the top of the sixth. The Ducks scored the winning run, an unearned run, in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Jillian Olmstead (Caesar Rodney/Magnolia, Del.) took the loss (2-1) in relief, she pitched the final two and two-thirds innings.
