St. John Fisher Opens Empire 8 Play with a Split Against RIT
The Cardinals opened Empire 8 play with a split against RIT, earning a 4-1 victory in the day’s starter, before seeing their six-game winstreak snapped in the nightcap as RIT rallied for a 11-4 win.
Game one: Fisher 4, RIT 1
The Cardinals got on the board with all four runs scored in the bottom of the third inning to eventually earn the 4-1 victory in game one.
Jamie Harmon went 2-for-3 from the plate with a team-best two RBI, scoring Megan Zoerb and Jennifer Vanek. Vanek and Kayla Goodberlet ended the game 2-for-4 from the batter’s box with one run each.
Danielle Leone earned the win from the mound, improving to 5-2 on the season.
Game two: RIT 11, Fisher 4
The Cardinals kicked things off with a run in the first off a double from Harmon that scored Zoerb, but RIT stole the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning.
Fisher tied it up in the third at 2s before pulling ahead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 4-2 lead. Lauren O’Brien, Vanek, and Goodberlet each doubled in the effort to take the lead.
Things looked good for Fisher until RIT broke things open with an eight-run rally in the top of the next inning with six straight singles. Fisher struggled to get out of the inning, ending it with a six-run deficit.
RIT tagged on an extra run in the seventh to secure the 11-4 win.
Sarah Stefanon took the loss from the mound for Fisher, falling to 2-1 on the season. The sophomore recorded six strikeouts.
