St. John Fisher Cruises Past Utica; Leonhard Sets Single-Season Record
The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 17-6 win over visiting Utica College on a chilly April afternoon at Growney Stadium.
With the win, Fisher improves to 9-5 overall, and 4-3 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Melissa Leonhard led the way for Fisher, tallying five goals and breaking the Fisher single-season goal-scoring record with 54 on the season, a record set by former player Lauren Glavin in 2009 (51). Leonhard also tacked on an assist for six points on the day.
Taylor Hughes matched Leonhard’s leading efforts, tallying five goals and an assist of her own, while senior Courtney Clare chipped in with six points on three goals and three assists.
Utica scored the first goal of the game just under two minutes into play, but Fisher tied it at 1s two minutes later and never looked back, going on a 8-0 run before the Pioneers could answer.
Molly Naylon improved to 3-0 between the pipes for Fisher, stopping nine shots.
