Laura Barito Posts Second-Best National Time in 400-Hurdles
POMONA, N.J. (April 21, 2011) – Senior Laura Barito of the Stevens Institute of Technology ran a national-qualifying time of 1:02.11 in the 400-meter hurdles- the first event of the day at the Richard Stockton Quad Meet- before turning in an ECAC-qualifying, school-record time of 26.26 seconds in the 200-meter race later in the day. Junior Alina Duran and freshman Rebecca Tylock also set new Stevens Institute of Technology school-records on Thursday.
Barito’s time in the 400-meter hurdles is the second-fastest time recorded in the country so far this season, trailing the leader by just three tenths of a second. It was also a school-record time.
Tylock’s new record came in the pole vault, where she posted an ECAC-qualifying height of 3.26 meters (10’8”).
Junior Alina Duran took second place in the shot put event, launching the shot 11.06 meters (36’3”), which is good for a new school-record. Duran also took second place in the hammer throw at 42.33 meters (138’11”).
Maggie Kowalska posted the second-best mark in school history in the high jump, where she cleared the bar set at 1.53 meters (5’). The sophomore also took second place in the javelin with a distance of 39.91 meters (130’11”).
Freshman Liana Grandinetti set two new personal records on Thursday, with her second-place finish in the discus [31.09 meters (102’)] and her third-place showing in the hammer [37.91 meters (124’5”)].
