St. John Fisher Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Alfred
The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team won its final Empire 8 Conference game of the year on Saturday, as the host Cardinals cruised to a 21-4 win over visiting Alfred University.
With the win, Fisher improves to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8. It is the fourth time in the last five years that Fisher has won 10 or more games in a season. The Cardinals, however, need Elmira College to upset Nazareth College later this afternoon to have any chance at qualifying for the Empire 8 Conference Championship.
Fisher took control early on, scoring three goals in the first 3:34 and never looked back. The Cardinals, who led 12-2 at intermission, played all 21 dressed players, and 11 different players scored in the victory.
Melissa Leonhard and Mary Stimson each finished with three goals and one assist, while Jackie Maynard also scored three goals.
Taylor Hughes totaled two goals and one assist, while Jill Zerrillo, Kristen Zylka and Bridget Alberts also scored twice.
Seniors Meg Merriam (one goal, two assists) and Courtney Clare (one goal, one assist) both had multi-point games, while Shannon McDermott and Emily Bryerton both scored.
Logan Barnard led Fisher with six ground balls. Molly Naylon stopped four shots in the first half, while Caroline Trpcevski made one save.
