St. John Fisher Baseball Wins At Brockport
The St. John Fisher College baseball team scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and picked up a 7-6 win over host College at Brockport on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game between two of the top teams in the state.
With the win, Fisher, ranked 28th nationally, improves to 20-6. It is the eighth straight year Fisher has won 20 or more games in a season.
Brockport falls to 19-10.
The game, scheduled for nine innings, was called going into the sixth inning after a thunderstorm cell rumbled through the region, dumping unwanted rain and making the field unplayable.
With the game tied at 1-1, Fisher scored four in the third to take the lead. Steve Karnyski hit a solo home run to start the inning, while Sean Osterman and Brad Rush each hit RBI-doubles.
Brockport, however, answered with five in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-5 lead.
Fisher played a little small ball to take the lead for good in the fifth. After Osterman singled to start the inning, Fisher used three walks, a sacrifice bunt, a fielder’s choice and hit by pitch to score the game’s final two runs.
Freshman Nate Harris, who pitched a scoreless fourth inning, retired Brockport’s No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 hitters in order to earn his first win at the collegiate level.
Osterman went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Chris Roeder, Ben Bostick, Matt Klock and Rush each doubled for Fisher.
