Stevens Women's Lacrosse Ranked Second in New York Region
HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 28, 2011) – The ninth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team is ranked second in the New York region, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Thursday morning. The Ducks are 13-2 overall and 12-1 in the region heading into a game at the top-ranked team in the nation, The College of New Jersey. SUNY Cortland, which is 12-0 in-region and 14-1 overall, is at the top of the New York region, while Hamilton College is ranked third (11-1, 13-1 overall).
Stevens, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, has won eight-straight games dating back to April 1 and finished the Empire 8 regular season with a perfect 8-0 ledger. The Ducks have won 23 of their last 24 conference games and will host the upcoming Empire 8 Championship on May 7 and 8.
Stevens will take on Rochester Institute of Technology in one semifinal at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of that game will face the winner of second-seeded Nazareth College and third-seeded Ithaca College on Sunday at a time to be determined.
Following Hamilton in the New York region rankings are three Empire 8 teams that the Ducks have defeated. Nazareth is fourth, Ithaca is fifth, and St. John Fisher College is sixth.
