Philadelphia, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Ithaca women’s track & field team competed at the Penn Relays hosted at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field on Thursday and Friday, April 28-29.

Senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) slashed a 27-year-old school record in the 5,000-meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:06.50. Her 16th-place finish in a field of 40 runners rewrote Betsy Kneale’s 1984 record of 17:14.00.

Ithaca’s 1,600 relay of junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker), freshman Martyann Chromik (Naugatuck/Naugatuck, Conn.), senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) and senior Emily Moran (Walkill/Walkill) clocked a 3:56.12 finish, just .12 seconds off the NCAA provisional qualifier. The squad improved its ECAC qualifier by six seconds with the finish.

Junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) ran the 3,000 steeplechase, finishing 16th with a time of 11:12.16 to again hit the ECAC qualifier in the race.

On Friday McCord and Chromik teamed with sophomores Cassandra Clark (Camden/Camden) and Tammia Hubbard (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep/San Francisco, Calif.) to finish the 4x200 relay in 1:46.80.

The Bombers will compete on Sunday, May 1 at Cornell's Big Red Invitational and at the NYSCTC Heptathlon at Nazareth.
