Nazareth downs Alfred, 7-2
MENDON, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth won all three doubles matches Tuesday and went on to win its Empire 8 Conference opener in men's tennis, 7-2, over Alfred at Mendon Racquet Club.
The Golden Flyers improved to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the E8. Alfred dropped to 3-4, 0-1.
Nazareth set the tone by taking all three doubles matches. Sophomores Bret Beaver and Ryan McCormick won 8-6 at first doubles an sophomore Jeremy Mancus combined with senior Adam Landry at second doubles. At #3, freshman Erik Manske and junior Tom Wood won 8-5.
In singles play, Landry won a close match at #3, dropping the first set 4-6 to Alfred's Nick Garletts before rallying to win 6-4, then 10-5 in a tiebreaker. Mancus, Manske and McCormick also won in straight sets.
