St. John Fisher Women's Lax Advances To ECAC Finals
Top-seeded St. John Fisher College advanced to the title game of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, as the Cardinals cruised to a 21-4 win over No. 4 Marywood University at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.
With the win, Fisher improves to 12-5 overall and will host No. 2 Farleigh-Dickinson University-Florham at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the championship game. FDU-Florham defeated Washington & Jefferson College 11-10 in Saturday’s other semifinal matchup.
Fisher’s scored seven straight goals and led 8-1 midway through the first half and never looked back. Marywood, who trailed 12-3 at the half, scored the first goal of the second half, but the Cardinals ended the game with 9-0 run.
For Fisher, Melissa Leonhard led the way with six goals. Senior Mary Stimson scored three goals, while classmates Courtney Clare, Jackie Maynard and Meg Merriam each finished with three assists. Maynard and Clare also scored two goals, as did Marykate Edmunds. Shannon McDermott, Logan Barnard, Emily Bryerton, Jill Zerrillo and Kristen Zylka also scored.
Freshman goalie Caroline Trpcevski made eight saves in goal.
