Bombers Collect 19th NYSCTC Outdoor Women’s Track & Field Crown
Troy, N.Y. – The Ithaca women’s track & field team collected its 19th New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Championship on Saturday at RPI scoring 282 points, double that of the second-place team. Senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) was named Track Athlete of the Meet, junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) was dubbed Field Athlete of the Meet and the Bombers’ head coach Jennifer Potter and her staff received Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
The Bombers won 12 events during the course of the meet including nine on day two of competition, while earning four NCAA provisional qualifiers and 10 ECAC marks.
Dewart also won the high jump with an ECAC clear of 1.63 meters, placed third in the 200 in 26.61 and fifth in the triple with a jump of 10.97 meters.
Graduate student Melanie McCormick (Champlain Valley Union/Williston, Vt.) won the 5,000 run and junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) followed in second place with ECAC-qualifying times of 18:38.48 and 18:43.12, respectively. Junior Molly Quinn (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) finished fourth in 19:00.44 and senior Liz Schloss (Canterbury/Fort Wayne, Ind.) sixth in 19:05.93.
Baumbach also won the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:16.73 and sophomore Carly Graham (West Genesee/Syracuse) clocked a fifth-place finish of 11:45.56. Both qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championships.
Senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) won the 1,500 in 4:38.89 to meet the ECAC standard and sophomore Jenn Randall (Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) finished third in 4:50.53. Leguers placed fifth in the 800 in 2:21.25 and senior Emily Moran (Walkill/Walkill) fourth with a time of 2:19.97.
Sophomore Tammia Hubbard (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep/San Francisco, Calif.) finished third in the 100 hurdles with an ECAC time of 15.46, while sophomore Amanda Rissmeyer (Watchung/Millington, N.J.) placed sixth in 17.02. Hubbard also ran fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.74 and freshman Paige Klingerman (Loyalsock Township/Williamsport, Pa.) placed seventh with a time of 1:08.92.
Rissmeyer placed second to Dewart in the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying clear of 1.58 meters and junior Hannah Evans (Penncrest/Media, Pa.) placed eighth with a mark of 1.38 meters.
Also on the track, freshman Martyann Chromik (Naugatuck/Naugatuck, Conn.) finished sixth in the 400 dash in 1:02.41, while sophomore Emily McCune (Pinkerton Academy/Hempstead, N.H.) ran eighth in 1:03.09. Sophomore Cassandra Clark (Camden/Camden) clocked a sixth-place 13.16 100 dash and sophomore Jillian Doyle (Kennett/Gilford, N.H.) ran eighth in 13.45.
The Bombers ran ECAC-qualifying times in both of Saturday’s relays. They were victorious in the 400 relay with a time of 49.08 and placed second in the 1,600 relay in 4:05.32.
Junior Jessica Hoeffner (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) placed sixth in the shot put and sophomore Colleen Garman (Seymour/Seymour, Conn.) eighth with throws of 11.23 and 10.71 meters, respectively.
Freshman Elaine Abdulky (Ithaca/Ithaca) finished seventh in the discus throw with a heave of 33.26 meters.
