Bombers Claim Sixth Place with Six All-America Finishes to Conclude NCAA Competition
Delaware, Ohio – The sixth-ranked Ithaca women’s track & field team earned a program-best sixth-place finish after scoring 33.50 points at the 2011 Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Ithaca produced six all-America finishes on the final day of competition, and eight throughout the meet, another program-best.
Previously, the Bombers’ best finish had been a 15th-place showing during the 1989 outdoor season while under the direction of current men’s cross country and track & field head coach Jim Nichols. That team had five individual and a pair relay all-America finishes.
Junior Emma Dewart (Barker/Barker) became the program’s most decorated athlete with eight all-America finishes, four of which were earned during the meet. She surpassed Cheryl Nethaway who previously held the record with seven produced from 1989-1991.
Dewart finished in a two-way tie for fourth place in the high jump and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles final on Saturday. She cleared 1.67 meters (5’ 5.75’’), and two lower heights, on her first attempt before missing all three at 1.70 meters. She clocked a finish of 15.46 in the hurdles final.
Senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) closed out her collegiate career with a pair of all-America finishes in the 200 and 400 dashes. A now six-time all-American, McCord ties two other Bombers for the third-most all-America accolades to date.
McCord finished second in the 400 dash, her fourth top-eight finish in the event at outdoor nationals, resetting her own school record with a time of 55.72. She also ran sixth in the 200 dash clocking in at 25.31.
Senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.) became an all-American with a 4:30.97 eighth-place finish in the 1,500 run. She rewrote her school record of 4:31.91 set in the preliminaries on Thursday. She also competed in the 5,000 to notch her second all-America finish. Leugers placed seventh with a 17:26.93 finish.
Junior Ashley Dlubac (Merrimack Valley/Loudon, N.H.) made her national debut competing in the javelin. She finished 19th with a heave of 38.99 meters (127’ 11’’).
