McCord Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

ITHACA, N.Y. – Marcia McCord(Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) of the Ithaca College women’s track & field team has been awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship by the NCAA. McCord was one of just 29 winners selected from nominations – encompassing NCAA Division I, II and III – that included all women’s spring sports.

McCord closed out her collegiate career with a pair of all-America finishes in the outdoor 200- and 400-meter dashes. A six-time all-American, McCord ties two other Bombers for the third-most all-America accolades . McCord finished second in the 400 dash, her fourth top-eight finish in the event at outdoor nationals, resetting her own school record with a time of 55.72. She also ran sixth in the 200 dash clocking in at 25.31 to lead the Bombers a program-best sixth-place finish.

She holds 14 school records at Ithaca – 10 individual records and four relay records. Throughout a total of eight indoor and outdoor seasons, McCord has won 50 championships as she is a three-time ECAC champion, 22-time NYSCTC champion and 25-time Empire 8 champion. A 22-time Empire 8 Athlete of the Week selection, she was named Empire 8 Indoor & Outdoor Rookie of the Year in 2007-08. Additionally, McCord has earned seven Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Year honors, while also claiming Field Athlete of the Year accolades during her freshman outdoor season.

McCord, who graduated with a degree in biochemistry major, was one of just eight NCAA Division III athletes honored, is the ninth Ithaca athlete to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and the first since women’s soccer player Amy Scheffer in 2010.
