More Postseason Awards for Ithaca Women's Track & Field Team

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Emma Dewart(Barker/Barker) led the Ithaca women’s track & field team in receiving a slew of postseason awards. Dewart was one of four named Scholar-Athletes of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while also earning Empire 8 Outdoor T&F Field Athlete of the Year honors. Ithaca placed 11 athletes on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and head coach Jennifer Potter received Empire 8 Outdoor T&F Coach of the Year honors.

A third-team academic all-America and fist-team all-district selection, Dewart is an eight-time all-American and the program's most decorated athlete. She won the indoor pentathlon with 3,535 points to become the Bombers' second women's track & field athlete to win a national championship in program history. This season Dewart tallied four outdoor all-America finishes helping the Bombers to a program-best sixth-place finish. She placed second in the heptathlon, third in the open long jump, fourth in the open high jump and eighth in the open 100-meter hurdles at the national meet.

Dewart currently holds eight school records, five of which she set or re-set during the 2010-11 campaign. She was named Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year and earned Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Meet honors during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Indoor she was named Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year, while outdoors she earned NYSCTC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet accolades.

Ithaca ranked third in the nation with 11 named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.Dewart was joined by junior Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid), freshman MartyAnn Chromik (Naugatuck/Naugatuck, Conn.), senior Kristen DeStefano (Boiceville/Onteora), junior Ashley Dlubac(Merrimack Valley/Loudon, N.H.), sophomore Carly Graham (West Genesee/Syracuse), senior Kate Leugers (Rice Memorial/Richmond, Vt.), senior Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.), graduate student Melanie McCormick (Champlain Valley Union/Williston, Vt.), senior Emily Moran (Walkill/Walkill) and sophomore Jenn Randall(Cincinnatus Central/Cincinnatus) on the squad.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying marks in an individual or relay event. Participation in an NCAA Championship also fulfills the athletic component of All-Academic qualification.

Potter led the team to a school-record sixth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships where Ithaca recorded eight all-America finishes. Ithaca swept the Empire 8 and NYSCTC outdoor titles and won the ECAC Outdoor Championship. Potter was named NYSCTC Outdoor Coach of the Year and was the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year following the outdoor campaign. This is the 14th time Potter earned conference coach of the year accolades (seven indoor, seven outdoor).
