Nazareth rallies to defeat Oswego, 3-2

ROCHESTER, NY - Nina Fargnoli scored off a break-away 7:02 into overtime to give Nazareth field hockey a 3-2 win over visiting SUNY Oswego.  The Golden Flyers' scored the final three goals of the game to earn their first win of the season.  Nazareth improves to 1-2 overall while the Lakers fall to 1-3.

Tessa Knapp had a fast break with eight minutes left in the first overtime period.  She carried the ball from Nazareth's defensive end of the field to earn her second assist of the game finding Fargnoli who beat Oswego's goalie Julie Janusz one-on-one for the win. 

Oswego started the game strong scoring the first two goals to take a 2-0 lead at the half.  Jackie Cook scored just five minutes into the game on a penalty corner to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead.  She was assisted by Katie Mazuchowski.  At 13:41 Ashley Wyder collected a rebound off of Nazareth's Sophia Rhoades goal pads and fed the ball up to the top of the circle to Mazuchowski for the second goal of the game.

The Golden Flyers got on the scoreboard at 40:04 when Lindsey Wagner scored off an assist from Nina Fargnoli to make the score 2-1.  Kailee O'Hara scored her first goal of the season at 56:14 to tie the game 2-2, after Knapp collected a rebound off a penalty corner for the assist.

Oswego out-shot Nazareth 23-15 including 4-1 in overtime.  They also held the slight 14-11 advantage in corners.  Janusz finished with fives saves for the Lakers while Nazareth's Rhoades had 12 saves in goal. 

The Golden Flyers will face Denison, who defeated The College of Brockport today by a score of 2-1,  tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the Nazareth Tournament Championship.  SUNY Oswego will play in the consolation game against Brockport at 11:00 a.m.
