Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men’s Soccer team scored twice in the first half in a hard-fought 2-0 conference opening win Saturday afternoon at Campus Field. The Soaring Eagles remain undefeated and improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8 while the Saxons drop to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

EC got on the board about midway through the first half after Saxon goalkeeper Elliot Thorpe took down a Purple and Gold forward in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Andre Germano ’15 (Campinas, Brazil -- Winchendon School) beat the keeper left into the side netting for the 1-0 lead. In the 43rd minute the Soaring Eagles struck just before half to add an insurance goal when Matthew Feldman ’14 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) played a beautiful lob to Ryan Limero ’14 (Belchertown, MA -- Dublin School) who beat the keeper and finished into the empty net.

Elmira outshout its opponents 31-12 in the game while holding a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks. Jared Micheller ’12 (Avon, CT -- Winchendon School) made 11 stops in net on the way to a shut out for EC, while Thorpe made 14 saves for Alfred.
