Ithaca Takes 45-Stroke Lead at Empire 8 Women's Golf Championship

Churchville, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's golf team posted an overall best one-round team total and raced out to a 45-stroke lead following the first round of the Empire 8 Women's Golf Championships at Mill Creek Golf Club outside of Rochester. The Bombers' team total of 333 strokes bettered last week's total of 340 in the second round at St. Lawrence. Ithaca leads Elmira (378), St. John Fisher (381) and Nazareth (415).

Freshman Sharon Li (Hong Kong International/Happy Valley, Hong Kong) led Ithaca with a score of 82, and junior Samantha Liberty (Brockton/Brockton, Mass.) posted a career-best round of 83 to rank second in the Ithaca lineup. Freshman Kelsey Baker (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior Jackie Young (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) each posted scores of 84 to round out Ithaca's team total.

In the conference tournament, teams are allowed to submit a lineup based of six players instead of five. Ithaca's two other scorers were freshman Paige Fontana (Holmdel/Holmdel, N.J.) with an 88 and sophomore Amanda Failla (Farmington/Unionville, Conn.) with a 90.

Sunday's second round begins at noon.
