#16/22 Bombers Open Empire 8 Action with 2-1 Edge of St. John Fisher

Rochester, N.Y. – The 16th/22nd-ranked Ithaca women’s soccer team (4-0-1, 1-0-0 Empire 8) edged by host St. John Fisher (2-3-0, 0-1-0 Empire 8), 2-1, in its Empire 8 opener on Saturday.

With a 1-0 lead after the first frame, almost 30 scoreless minutes ticked off the clock before the Cardinals brought the game to a 1-1 stalemate. Ithaca was quick to rebound and claim the victory at 77:17.

Sophomore Anna Gray (Delmar/Bethlehem) laced in her first collegiate goal to solidify the Bombers’ 1-0 first-half advantage. Gray sent a low shot into the back of the net in the 19th minute.

The Cardinals knotted the game up at 73:43 sailing a ball high into the corner of the net past junior goalkeeper Becca Salant (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.).

The Bombers answered less than four minutes later on a Caroline Jastremski (Notre Dame Academy/Staten Island) feed. She crossed the ball to junior Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Lansing) for the game-winner in the 78th minute.

Salant recorded the win having made 11 stops in goal for the Bombers.

Ithaca outshot the Cardinals, 16-15, and held a solid 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
