Senior Alex Battle of St. John Fisher earned the Medalist/Player of the Year honor for the second consecutive year at the 2011 Empire 8 Women’s Golf Championship. She shot rounds of 79 and 74 at Mill Creek Golf Course and earned medalist honors by winning a four-hole playoff with Sharon Li of conference champion Ithaca College.
The top five finishers who played both rounds were named to the all-conference first team with the next five players being selected to the all-conference second team.
Li, who shot the best round of the tournament with a second-round 71, earned first-team all-conference and Empire 8 Rookie of the Year accolades. Each of the remaining first-team players were also from Ithaca, which won the tournament by 100 strokes.
Li’s classmate Kelsey Baker (166 total) finished third, while junior Jackie Young and sophomore Amanda Fallia (171) tied for fourth place. Fallia repeated as a first-team all-conference player and Young earned first-team honors for the first time after garnering second-team recognition last year.
The six Ithaca players finished second through seventh in the individual results.
Dan Wood repeated as Coach of the Year for leading Ithaca to its second team title in the two-year history of the championship.
