HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 21, 2011) – On October 23, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team will travel to Owings Mills, Md. to play in Stevenson University’s 2011 Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic at 10 a.m. The Ducks are coming off a 16-3 2011 spring season, a national ranking of No. 8 and a berth to the NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship which ended in the second round.

Goucher College and Virginia Wesleyan College will be joining the Ducks and Stevenson in the classic. The Ducks and Mustangs will play against each other at 10 a.m. at Mustang Stadium, and then will take on the Gophers at 12 p.m. on Stevenson’s grass field.

The Classic was established to keep the memory alive of Meghan Puls, who died in a car accident back in 2001, and is the daughter of Stevenson assistant coach Tim Puls. Cassie Puls, the mother, is a volunteer assistant coach for the Mustangs women’s basketball team.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs will also receive portions of the earnings.

Admission to the event is free, but a suggested donation of five dollar is greatly appreciated. If you would like to sponsor the event, please contact Tim Puls gtpuls@stevenson.edu for more information.

Last season, Stevenson posted an 18-3 record and finished the season as the No. 3 team in the country. The Mustangs featured a school-record nine All-Americans in 2011 as well. Virginia Wesleyan finished last season with an 8-8 mark and advanced to the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament. Goucher, the regular season champion in the Landmark Conference, compiled a 11-6 record and advanced to the Landmark finals in 2011.
