Day Leads Utica Women's Cross Country in 6K Purple Valley Classic

Utica, NY (9-/2411) - The Utica College women's cross country team finished 11th in the 6K Saturday at the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.  The Ephs hosted the race at Schyulerville High School in Williamstown, MA. Sophomore Katie Day, from nearby Whitesboro, led UC as she placed 64th out of 202 runners.
Day, the reigning E8 Rookie of the Year, averaged a 6:37 mile and posted a final time of 24:20 earning 52 points for the team.  The local native picked up right where she left off last season as she placed 12th in the season opener and followed up with a ninth place finish as UC took third at the Oswego St. Invitational two weekends ago.

Sophomore Jaimee Balloni finished second for UC, placing 116th.  Balloni averaged an even 7:00 mile and posted a final time of 26:05. 

Freshmen Savannah Bernardin and Theresa Rakiewicz posted identical times of 26:18 as they took 122nd and 123rd, both averaging a 7:04 mile.  They combined for 145 total points in their third collegiate race.

The women's Division III squads consisted of five top 12 nationally-ranked teams including No.1 Middlebury, No.5 host Williams, No.5 Amherst and Coast Guard.
