Ithaca Places Sixth at Mount Holyoke Invitational
South Hadley, Mass. - The Ithaca women's golf team posted a second-round total of 326 -- a 16-stroke improvement from the first round -- and placed sixth in a highly-competitive field of 14 teams at the Mount Holyoke Invitational. The tournament was contested at The Orchards in South Hadley, Mass., a par-72 layout that played to 5,845 yards and hosted the 2004 U.S. Women's Open. The top-three finishing teams in the tournament all rank among the top-15 scoring teams in Division III golf.
Freshmen Sharon Li (Hong Kong International/Happy Valley, Hong Kong) and Kelsey Baker (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.) led Ithaca throughout the weekend. Li placed first among Ithaca players and tied for 10th overall with rounds of 83 and 78 for a 161 total. Baker was one shot back at 162 on scores of 80 and 82.
In Sunday's second round, Ithaca's other two scoring lineup members were sophomore Amanda Failla (Farmington/Unionville, Conn.) with a season-best score of 81. She totaled 168 at the tournament. Junior Jackie Young (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) posted a second-round score of 85 and totaled 177 over the two days.
Junior Samantha Liberty (Brockton/Brockton, Mass.) posted 177 on rounds of 90 and 87. Freshman Paige Fontana (Holmdel/Holmdel, N.J.) finished with a score of 183 on consistent rounds of 92 and 91.
