Ithaca Women's Basketball Alone Atop E8 Standings After Stopping Stevens 48-37
Hoboken, N.J. – The Ithaca College women’s basketball team (12-2, 4-0 Empire 8) took over sole possession of first place in the Empire 8, beating host Stevens Institute of Technology (6-7, 3-1 Empire 8) 48-37. The win was the sixth in seven games for the Bombers, who are receiving votes in both national polls this week, and dropped the Ducks – who are the third Ithaca opponent to fail to reach 40 points – under .500 for the year.
The Bombers have now won 35 of their last 36 Empire 8 games.
Sophomore guard Mary Kate Tierney (Our Lady of Mercy/Rochester) recorded career-high totals of 10 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Jess Farley (Pine Valley Central/South Dayton) added 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Freshman forward Geena Brady (Onondaga Central/Syracuse) led the team in rebounding, pulling down a career-high nine in just 16 minutes.
The Bombers took control late in the first half, closing the period on a 13-1 run that gave them a 25-15 lead at intermission. Freshman Samantha Klie (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) scored all four of her points and contributed three rebounds during the late surge.
Ithaca maintained a lead of at least two possessions for the entire second half; Stevens closed to seven points with 1:55 left but didn’t score again as the Bombers pulled away for the 11-point win -- matching their biggest margin of victory ever over the Ducks.
The Bombers have now won seven of nine regular-season meetings with Stevens.
