St. John Fisher Field Hockey Team Helps Out With Special Olympics
The St. John Fisher College field hockey team spent most of Saturday serving as referees for the Special Olympics Super Regional Floor Hockey Tournament.
Fisher’s Student Life Center was the host site for the event. There were a nearly 250 players and 12 teams from Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton and Elmira - that took part in the competition. Some of these athletes participated in team floor hockey play, while others showcased their own talents with an individual skills event.
Fifteen of Fisher’s field hockey players worked the event, officiating with three rinks in action at all times.
“Our players really enjoyed working this event and can’t wait to do it again,” said Fisher head coach Tarah Christenson. “It was a great way to spend a Saturday and hope the participants had as good of a time as our players did work the event!”
Fisher recently completed its first season as an NCAA Division III field hockey program.
