Stevens Amongst National Leaders in Latest NCAA Stat Release

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 20, 2012) – Stevens Institute of Technology is among the nation’s elite according to the most recent National Collegiate Athletic Association statistics release. Stevens cracks the top-50 in eight different stat categories as a team, and senior forward Simon Smith (Cranford, N.J.) is No. 1 nationally in double-doubles. Stevens will host a pair of conference contests this weekend versus rivals Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College.

The Ducks check in at No. 7 in assists, handing out 18.5 assists per game, and they are eighth in field-goal percentage defense, keeping the opposition at 37.6 percent. Stevens is 14th in rebounding margin (plus-9.3) and three-point field-goal percentage defense (27.7 percent). Stevens’ plus-14.3 scoring margin is 21st in the nation and its 82.4 points per game is 26th. The Ducks are 28th in won-lost percentage (85.7) and 29th in field-goal percentage (48.5).

Smith leads the nation with 11 double-doubles in 14 games and is third nationally in rebounding, pulling down 12.7 per contest. He is 12th in field-goal percentage (63.9 percent) and 64th in scoring, pouring in 18.9 points per game. Junior guard Sheldon Jones (Queens, N.Y.) is 65th in points per game, averaging 18.8.
