Tyler McArdell of the men’s golf team participated in the Patriot All-America Invitational at The Wigwam Arizona, a Phoenix club boasting three 18-hole championship golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Eighty-two All-America collegiate golfers from all three divisions of the NCAA were invited from around the country to participate in the event. The senior earned his invite by being named a PING Third Team All-America selection following his junior season.

Having time for just five practice holes before the first round, the Baldwinsville native took a round to adjust, shooting an 88 in the first round before settling down. In the next two rounds McArdell played great golf, shooting a two-under second round and an even round three to capture a top 60 finish. Par for the course was 213, while McArdell shot a three-round total of 228, finishing at +15.

McArdell leads a team that is highly touted following its run in the fall. Golfstat.com has the Cardinals ranked No. 10 in the nation, winning four tournaments in the fall, the most of any Top 10 team. The GolfWorld/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll has Fisher at No. 12, where it moved up from its previous ranking of 13. Before the season, the GolfWorld/Nike Golf poll failed to rank the Cardinals, but the experience of McArdell teamed with the freshman game of Thaddeus Wier has made Division III golf take notice.

The spring portion of the men’s golf schedule will start in the middle of March, when the Cardinals travel to Georgia to take part in the Jekyll Island Invitational on March 16th-18th.
