Dominant Performance For Ithaca Men's Swimming & Diving

Troy, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team returned to action Saturday with a convincing victory at the Henry Kumpf Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer. Ithaca placed first of eight teams in championship scoring with 676 points and also defeated the seven other participating teams in dual-meet scoring to improve the Bombers' overall record to 13-1 on the year.

Ithaca won eight of the 13 total total events on the afternoon including both relays. The Bombers started the meet with a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:35.26 by the team of sophomore Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge), junior Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), senior Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) and junior Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport).

The Bombers closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay by senior Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.), Robbins, sophomore John Carr (Brewster/Brewster) and junior Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville).

Distance freestyle swimmer, freshman Clement Towner (Lansing/Lansing) won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:01.42) and 500-yard freestyle (4:57.62). Ithaca swimmers placed first and second in the 200-yard freestyle as Carr won the event in 1:46.56 followed by Cadwell in 1:48.28.

On the diving boards, freshman Matt Morrison (Simsbury/Simsbury, Conn.) turned in his best collegiate finish with a score of 266.10 on the 1-meter board, his best finish as a collegian. Ithaca's Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) was second with a total of 269.00 on the 3-meter board and junior Martin Brown (McLean/McLean, Va.) was third on 3-meter with a score of 263.75.

Rapp won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.96, Lichter won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:15.56, and sophomore Taylor Van Cott (Bethlehem/Delmar) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.36.
