Ithaca Men's Track & Field Competes at Cornell Upstate Challenge

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men’s track & field team kicked off its 2012 campaign competing at the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Saturday. The Bombers had 14 top-10 individual performances on the day.

Senior Doug Koury (Nashoba/Bolton, Mass.) finished third in the 400-meter dash in 50.93 and fifth in the 200 in 23.68. Sophomore Jake Willis (Gorham/Gorham, Maine) placed fourth in the 200 and freshman David Searles (Masconomet Regional/Topsfield, Mass.) eighth with times of 23.31 and 23.96, respectively.

Also on the track, the Bombers placed two in the 800 and 3,000 runs and one in the 1,000. Freshman Mason Mann (Keene/Keene, N.H.) finished the 800 in 2:01.86 and junior Matthew Kastler (Walter Johnson/Bethesda, Md.) placed 10th with a 2:02.27 finish. Freshman Anthony Altobelli (Ichabod Crane/Kinderhook) and junior Chris Lotsbom (Walpole/Walpole, Mass.) finished four-five in the 3K with times of 10:04.26 and 10:10.67, while junior Billy Savage (Indian Hills/Oakland, N.J.) narrowly missed the ECAC qualifier in the 1,000 with a 10th-place finish of 2:34.51.

Seniors Spencer Barry (Avon/Avon, Conn.) and Jusan Hamilton (Ithaca/Ithaca) finished sixth and eighth in the weight throw. Barry threw 15.01 meters (49-03.00) and Hamilton 13.99 meters (45-10.75).

Three Bombers placed in the jumping events as senior Travis Johnson (Nashoba/Stow, Mass.) placed sixth in the triple jump, graduate student Kramer Jakubek (Monroe-Woodbury/Monroe) eighth in the high jump and junior Brian Maley (Ithaca/Ithaca) ninth in the long. Johnson hit 12.86 meters (42-02.25) in the triple, Jakubek cleared 1.89 meters (6-02.25) in the high and Maley leaped 6.64 meters (21-09.50) in the long jump.

The Bombers will next host the Empire 8 Indoor Championships on Saturday, Jan. 28.
